Partner’s ex took out loans in his name

My partner was never married to his ex. They have two young children together who live with her and he sees on weekends.
They split up 3 years ago and at the end of their relationship she took out loans under his name which he wasn’t aware of at the time, but found out about after. I think for a quiet life he accepted them and is paying them off at £15 a month (there’s 3 in total).
They have a frosty relationship and she is still in debt now we’ve heard, not paying off her other loans.
Me and my partner have had a row as I’m not happy about him giving her his hard earned money to pay off loans which he never agreed to. What can be done about him stopping paying them back?

Go to the police and report fraud is the only thing he can do.

There is little point reporting this as fraud at this stage. He has been paying which would be considered his acknowledgment of the debt being his.

How do you know he knew nothing about them, if that was true then signatures were fraudulent and any sane person would have gone to the police and reported it not went and payed it!

Yes. He’s acknowledging the debt by paying it. Very little you could do now, especially if he doesn’t want to mess up co-parenting for good.

If he's only paying £15 pm, the loans are almost certainly in arrears so do not get any joint accounts with him under any circumstances as his bad credit history will also affect your ability to obtain credit.

If the loans are in his name and he's not going to report her for fraud, then he needs to deal with them as if they're his debt, which legally, they are.

Why is he paying so little? Can he afford to pay more? How much are the loans for? He needs to either pay them off as quickly as he can afford to, or seek help from a debt charity about a payment arrangement or other formal solution if he can't afford to pay so either way he can draw a line under it and get on with his life.

Yes the signatures were fraudulent too but because they were on/off at the time I think he just accepted them

@Newname09Under no circumstances enter into any sort of financial relationship with this man OR have children with him.

Is £15 pm a typo? Will he be paying these forever. Was the loan only a few hundred quid? Just pay them off in full, stop paying the interest and get on with your lives.

Why?

Because you have no idea what his current financial position is and what it could do to your credit rating. Because he is still involved with his ex partner. Because you can’t trust him because he is not telling you the whole truth.

My ex wife took thousands out in my name on loans and credit cards.
There's very little in terms of support out there for financial abuse. The police will dismiss it immediately. There just not interested.
He needs to update his security on all finance so she can't try it again and ultimately just pay them off.
I ended up with 3 CCJs.
