Car insurance/courtesy car query

Last week a huge crane lorry thing carrying building supplies was making a delivery next door to us and the wheel of the lorry squashed the front/side of DH's car, smashing side light and warping the door.

The lorry's insurance company has been in touch and have told us the name of the company they are going to get to repair it.

DH needs a courtesy car and the repair company have one for him but he needs to ring his insurance to get a cover note to drive the courtesy car. Does he pay for this does anyone know? Presumably he will ring his insurance company and they will want a payment but its not his fault he needs to get the cover note for new car.

Never had this situation before and the repair company are ringing him today with the make/model of car so he can get insured on it.

Also, I am fully comp on my own car insurance and need to drive DH's car - can I drive the courtesy car on my insurance?
Thanks!

Depends on the insurance company. Some "cheaper" ones will charge an "admin" fee to cover the courtesy car, others don't.

(Elephant do, esure do, Privilege don't for example)

You driving the courtesy car on your insurance would only cover you 3rd party. Normally you driving another car on own insurance is 3rd party only - not fully comp. You need that car's insurance to be fully comp.

So unless you are on your DH insurance you'll need to also tell your insurance co.
