I was caught speeding by a mobile camera last week.

I was doing 40 in a 30 zone. I noticed I was speeding and the camera unit at the same time IYSWIM.

I have now recieved the notice of intended prosecution. I will send it back saying I was driving . What will happen next.
Will I have to go to court?
Will I be able to do some sort of course instead of points on my licence?

this happened to my DH a couple of weeks ago and we checked out what would happen.
You shouldn't need to go to court unless you contest it - once you have sent back the letter they will contact you and let you know whether you can do a course or not instead of getting points (the guy at the police i spoke to said that you have to fulfil certain criteria to do this - i think he meant that if you had been doing 70mph in a 30mph zone you would not be considered! But we are still waiting to hear back) otherwise you will have to send your licence in to get the points and pay a £60 fine i think. HTH

I got caught over a year ago by speed camera doing 41 in a 30 and wasn't offered the course it was mandatory £60 fine and 3 points.

I think if you are too far over the speed limit the course is not an option.

Thanks,

I won't be contesting as I know I was speeding. I will just hope I can go on a course that may help my driving awareness a bit as I think I do a lot of driving on automatic pilot or talking to the kids and not concentrating properly.
