Cheque from December

Does anyone know if an uncashed cheque from December means the person who gifted it still got charged?

Details: HSBC
Date of cheque: Dec 24

It was a small Christmas gift but we totally forgot to cash it in (never used cheques before!) and I’ve just found it. Now I’m worried the person paid this money for nothing (though as far as they’re concerned we received it, as had already spoken to thank them for card etc back then).

The person who sent it to you won’t have been charged. That only happens when the recipient pays it in.

That’s what I read online and was hoping to confirm (the amount of trust I have in MN needs to be studied hahah).

Phew! Thanks for your reply.

No it only comes off their account when you pay it in.

Retired Bank Manager here. No, the person hasn't paid. The money only leaves their account when the cheques is paid in by the payee (you). Also, they will know that you didn't pay it in (if they keep a close eye on their account). You can't pay it in now, because it's over 6 months old.
