My dad moved in with me. So I can care for him
How do I add him on my council tax ? And add him to my universal credit?
Without him having to pay pay my rent? Someone said add him a lodger instead of a tenant? Otherwise he will exected to pay half the rent? That’s not fair is it? He’s a disabled pensioner thank you
i am clicking carers allowance for him
thankyou

You call the council to add his name and change of address, you only get carers allowance if he is claiming attendance allowance, up to you if you are happy for him to live with you rent free, do you own your property or is it council housing, if it's council does your lease allow someone else to live there. Is he claimIng any benefits or has any income or assets. Where was he living before.

I would imagine you report him moving in with you as a change of circumstance to your UC journal - but I don't think he;d be added to your claim in the same way that a partner or child would as he'd not be counted as a dependant. .

Just add him as a non dependent. It will mean you get a non dependent deduction on your rent element ( around £95 per month I think ). Depending on his circumstances you may not have the deduction. Hard to say without knowing what benefits he receives.
If your dad currently receives pension credit and his pension credit claim includes a severe disability premium then he needs to let pension credit know as he will lose that now you are claiming carers allowance and he has moved in with you. If you've been claiming carers allowance or UC carers element for him for a while then he won't be getting that premium anyway.

If you have a non dependent in the household then there'll be a deduction of about £95/month from your UC. However if your Dad gets Attendance Allowance that won't apply.

If he gets AA and you spend 35 or more hours as his carer then you might get extra money in UC for that.
