Wage gone up and tax credits too! Why?

I changed my hours at work last Sept from 18 to 22 and my wage went up appropriately. DH and I have also had a pay rise this year.

Filled in the renewal form with P60 details on and fully expected our award to reduce as I earn more but my nursery costs have not gone up but received letter the other day and we are getting £20 a month more than before!

I have checked the details they have on us again and again and they are correct and our wage amounts are off our P60's so are definitely correct - I can't understand why we are getting more money when I earn more!

Does it sound normal to you?

Also, it says in the info that if nursery costs go up or down not to bother telling them unless the change is more or less than £10, am I reading that correctly?

Thanks

My dh's wage went up by £4000 and I was earning too (a whole £500 per year) and we have only lost £15 per week. I think they must have reviewed the tax credits.

Wow quick reply thanks!

Also, those of you who pay for nursery fees, do you find that you get more than the amount of fees? Eg, We used to get £40 a month more than the fees and now get £60 a month more. We are not on massive wages (£22k combined) - maybe that is a factor?

My earnings have got up over the past years and I am now 77 a week worse off. They have removed all my childcare aid and say it because I now earn more. I earn 14k a year.
Am gutted and not sure what to do!

I think it's because they go on the last tax year which is on your p60 so although you got your rise in Sept the tax year is April last year to April this year so your wage wouldn't have been the wage you'll get this year (for a full year on that wage) iyswim. This happened to us last year and we're waiting to get stung by this years renewal.

Just to confirm what Ledodgey said really. Dh had a pay rise last year, which I told the tax credits about straight away. they told me that it wouldn't effect the amount we recieve until this year. Sure enough our tax credits just went down by about £20 a week.

Ah - so next year we'll suffer then!!! I see now, makes a bit more sense. Its just weird when you ring them so things are up to date but the figures don't make sense. DS starts school in Sept so I will have no nursery fees and am going to work 29 hours so obviously I will ring and tell them but golly I bet we'll owe them next year!
