Mortgage with bad credit score

Has anyone secured a mortgage with bad credit? I had some debts thanks to Covid, was not furloughed, no income, spiralled a bit from there - I managed to keep on top of it until about 2 years ago, then few defaults. Credit score tanked. Got a job but pay was still low so still struggled. I now have a better job better pay and I need to get a mortgage to buy 50% of a family members property (I live in it). My credit score is slowly improving and I am bit by bit getting things paid off, paid up to date etc.

Do I have a cat in hells chance of getting a mortgage now or will I need to wait until I have paid everything off in full and credit score improves (it improves a little every month)? I can afford a mortgage, my salary has doubled in the last 2 years. I've looked online and all these companies come up and I would rather see if anyone else has been in this position?

You need to see a mortgage broker and they will give you the options you have .
