Universal Credit Claim - joint or single?

Can anyone advise on this - I'm currently living with my ex while we try to sell the house. I got made redundant a month ago and desperately trying to find any kind of work as I hate the idea of having to claim but I'm getting nowhere.

Do I have to make a joint claim because we're still living in the same house, even though we're separated?

If your finances are separate and you definitely are separate then do a single claim but everything must be separate.

If you're separated you can claim as singles but you'll need to show you're effectively two households and live separate lives.

Thank you - what sort proof would they require that we live separate lives? We're on very amicable terms but have separate bedrooms, cook our own meals and socialize with our own friends etc?

You can claim new-style JSA regardless of your relationship status.

You can claim UC as a single person as long as you and your ex have separate finances - close any joint accounts, split bills 50/50, each pay for your own stuff (eg no paying for each other's mobile phone bill or whatever).

If you explain you've split, do not sleep in same room but have to live together till house is sold, then it figures you do a single claim. You don't want finances tied in with someone who is no longer your partner?
