Council tax - child finished A levels

Hi all - my daughter has just finished her A level exams and my council tax is now gone up to the full amount rather then a 25% single parent discount. She’s going to uni in September. Are we supposed to pay the full amount until September as that’s when she leaves? I assumed it would be discounted until 31st august as I’ll still get child benefit until then. Thanks

Visit your council's website and check their terms vs your situation, as every council seems to have slightly different rules. eg If your daughter claims job seekers you may get a discount.

You need to check with them, if she’s staying in full time education I think you’ll keep the discount but double check.

There may be an earlier cut off for school leavers, the official school leaving date is end of June but that may not apply to ct. For graduates it is when the uni term finishes, not the date of graduation ceremony, even if they plan to resume post grad study in September of the same year.

For students under 20 years old who left school or college after 30th April, the disregard should be awarded until their 20th birthday or 1st November after they finish their course, whichever is earliest. So, if that means there is only one other person eligible to pay council tax in the household, the 25% discount can remain until then.
