they are saying its dh responsibility to keep card and pin safe. not even i know his pin number. his card was with him at the time here in herts whilst someone withdrew £200 up in manchester from a cashpoint.

what can we do?

oh crumbs.

Read title, and was going to rant about copied cards etc..., but if they were using the pin number... I have no idea what you can do.

I had a card cloned at a petrol station a few years ago, and all my fees, and lost moeny were eventually refunded, but only because I tracked down the CCTV footage at the petrol station, and they admitted that a number of cards had been cloned there.

Do you know when the last time he used it was? Can you identify key places, and then a=ring them and ask them if they have picked up any cloning devices (sounds liek star trek!!). This is what i had to do with mine. It was tedious- and i contacted the police too, as it is theft.

oh blimey

complain to the Bank Ombudsman if you can't resolve this with the bank

we have had a lot of card fraud and always been able to claim a refund

you can prove you were not in M/CR so it wasn't you using the card

edam · 23/05/2008 10:08

I'm sure there are guidelines on this and the bank is trying to wriggle out of them - PINs are easy to steal now we have to put them into so many devices.

firstly, if you haven't already done this write to your bank

wait for their response - they should tell you what their complaints procedure is and also tell you what to do if you aren't satisfied with their response

apparently there was a compromised cash point at the local shops. have heard loads of people had their cards cloned and pins stolen.

its just what we dont need.

well if the cash point was compromised and it is well known your bank are being arses

misdee · 23/05/2008 10:25

he has gone into town to open a new account with another bank. once he gets this sorted with ABBEY then he will close the account.

i need to sort out new accounts for myself and the children.

Co-op?

Nbg · 23/05/2008 13:37

I'm sure you used your mobile phone on that day?

If so, that will prove your whereabouts.

CarGirl · 23/05/2008 13:41

Have you tried nationwide?

ib · 23/05/2008 13:44

I second banking ombudsman - it was fraud and they can't make you pay it. Did you use the card in herts that day? Could be useful for proving it was a clone.

Shocking of your bank tbh.

cc21 · 23/05/2008 13:47

This happened to me. I banked with Natwest, they said the onus was on them to prove I hadn't been in receipt of the goods/cash. Got full refund (about £400) but had to sign form saying I was happy for details to be passsed to police.
