DWP letter, appointee notice

So I received this letter today, and I am not sure how to take this or even reply, I receive this for my son, and more than know my role, anyone else had a similar letter? What happens if you don’t reply, I don’t even live by a post box or Royal Mail shop, I’m housebound, but this seems silly to ask this now, and give an ultimatum of 4 weeks reply, I more than know my role.

Not sure but it would be wise to reply as if you go not it flag safeguarding concerns. Surely somebody must pass a post box sometimes in four weeks. Could you ask a neighbor if you don't know anybody else?

I don't think it's anything unusual or targeted. If you don't return it, they may stop your son's DLA. I'd ring the number at the top (referred to for if you need the letter in braille etc) and explain your difficulty getting to a postbox - that response may be adequate.

you can arrange royal mail to collect if from your house for 30p on top of cost of a stamp

Didn't read it properly

How do you get things, does someone collect you? Does your child go out? Carers coming in could take the letter. 4 weeks to reply is a decent window

Lougle · 05/06/2025 22:56

If you don't respond they can stop your payments, so you need to do your best to respond. Being an appointee is a formal status, so it's not trivial. All they are asking you to do is to confirm that you understand your responsibilities.

I think it is required governance for a role which could be abused and probably often is...with people citing "I didn't know" as an excuse.

I was an appointee so I do know the paperwork is a small woodlands worth of paper

It's a standard letter. You just need to reply. Is there nobody that can pop.it in the post for you? Royal Mail will collect for a small fee
