Dwp Investigation

Dwp contacting Ex's employer asking for marital status and bank details and address relating to a claim.
I'm guessing mine.
When all is confirmed will that be the end of it or am I being investigated?
I'm worried my money will stop 😐

Is this a claim for child maintenance for your children? Are you the receiving parent ?

Can you explain the relevance of marital status ?

If you can explain more, people will be able to help you better.

They've probably either noticed money going from him to you (cm?), had a malicious report that you're with him, or he's still got something registered to your address and it's flagged up on their AI checks.
As long as you're not together you've got nothing to worry about, if they can't tell still from his work details they might contact you for an interview which you don't need to worry about (providing he doesn't live with you) but if his employer clarifies I doubt they'll contact you as they're just looking to gather evidence to see whether to open an investigation.
If they haven't told you they're investigating then they'd have no reason to tell you that they've stopped as they probably assume you don't know.

Thank you for replies. We are separated and he has his own place and we are not financially linked.
I'm just very embarrassed for him and for me too.
Yes, all has been clarified and I'm hoping that's the end of it but just worried my money will be stopped It's very scary to think that if it's stopped I would be in debt right away and could be homeless. Very very scary and like a dark cloud hanging over me.
I've had nothing my end from them.

Is this about child maintenance or a benefit that you are claiming?

Are you claiming benefits as a single parent and they think you are cohabiting ?

DoubleRainbow3 · 22/05/2025 10:44

It seems to be questioning being single I'm thinking.

In that case you need to go through all the things that indicate you might be cohabiting and sort them out.

That’s things like having someone stay over regularly, getting their post at your house, using your address for anything like bank statements, phone bills , insurance, having anyone pay towards your household bills or buying food shopping for you. This is even if they don’t live with you ( child maintenance doesn’t count ) and even if the children are not theirs.

Marital status is irrelevant - it doesn’t matter if they are married to someone else but living with you. Or living with / married to someone else and giving you money.

It doesn’t matter if you are “ financially separate “ but living together eg living with you for free. It will be assumed that they are contributing to your living costs.

If you have extra money coming in ( like a lump sum from an inheritance ) or change your working hours, you need to tell DWP.

You should have had a letter from DWP telling you that you are being Investigated and asking you for more info.

Yes your benefits can be stopped if they are sanctionable benefits.

Whatadayyyyyyy · 22/05/2025 11:35

What money are you worried will stop? What is it for?

DoubleRainbow3 · 22/05/2025 17:07

The thing is I haven't had anything myself and it's obviously about me.
I think marital status is relevant as that was one of the questions asked.
