Hi all just a quick one, I’m on a joint claim with my partner with 2 children on the claim, iv been getting benefit capped for the past 2 years because I receive child benefit for 2 children . Last year I spoke to a case manager and she said its right been capped which I didn’t mind. But iv recently been capped more the past few months so I messaged on my journal and asked why she said it’s because I have 4 children on my child benefit claim which I don’t I only have 2 children. Iv double checked my HMRC app and only states 2 children so this must be a mistake from universal credits end. They have forwarded it to the relevant team. Does Anyone know what happens next or how long it will take to be sorted out thanks

If the total number of children in your house is 2 then you have been underpaid universal credit.

Check that you have only been paid child benefit for the two children you have and the payment hasn’t been duplicated once to you and once to your children partner.

Why would they be underpaid? If they have 2 children and UC thinks they have 2 children surely that would be accurate?

Because they have deducted child benefit for 4 children off the total to reduce the amount of universal credit paid to OP.

If OP only has two children then only 2 lots of child benefit should be included in the total.

@untilido because UC are assuming the household is getting child benefit for 4 children and reducing their UC payments accordingly because of the benefit cap.
