Hi, I don’t know if anyone can advise.
Im 19 weeks pregnant working in the NHS, I have had some sickness due to being unwell in pregnancy. Im entitled to 1 month full pay sick leave and 2 months half pay, im now in my qualifying weeks for SMP and wondering how sick leave will affect SMP?
If anyone has been in this situation before that would help.
Thanks in advance.

If you are on sick leave during your qualifying weeks and as a result are earning less then you will receive less SMP or may not be eligible for SMP at all x

@Mrsttcno1 thank you. So if I’m receiving full pay for the sick leave it won’t affect it?
and if I receive half pay it’ll only affect the first 6 weeks of pay on SMP?

If you are working as normal during your qualifying weeks, the earlier sick pay has no bearing on it. If you are on full sick pay during your qualifying weeks, the sick pay has no bearing on it. If you're on half pay or no pay during your qualifying weeks, your SMP will be reduced. You may still be entitled to Maternity Allowance even if you become ineligible for SMP though.

If you’re on full pay then it won’t have an impact, other than you obviously wouldn’t have the chance to do weekends/overtime/night shifts to boost your pay. If you receive half pay it doesn’t just impact the first 6 weeks no, it impacts the full lot.

It depends on your earnings, you might drop below and not qualify for SMP at all or you might qualify but get less SMP. You don’t just automatically get £184 SMP, it’s £184 a week OR 90% of your average weekly pay, whichever is LOWER. So if you were on half pay during that time then your weekly pay will actually be basically half of your weekly pay and so you may then not be entitled to the full £184 even if you are still entitled to SMP.
