I read another poster saying that thier ins co automatically renewed thier policy?

Do you get a quote, do you have to reply?

They will write to you a few weeks before it's due to expire and asking you to renew.

It's up to you if you do but it's always worth shopping around again (on something like confused.com) to get a better quote.

It's easy to just renew with your current insurer but not always cheaper.

I have always been sent a quote, which says "if we don't hear from you we will assume you are happy with the quote and will take your money on X date". If you want to go with someone else you have to tell them.

Look at other places though. Don't assume your current provider will be the cheapest.

Most insurance companies will send you out a renewal quote and usually if you do nothing it will roll over but be aware that many companies are fighting hard for new business so will quote low for the first year but the second year can be well above what it should be.

Last year the Post Office increased my premium by over 25% and I had made no claims of anything. As they say, shop around. Go to somewhere like moneysupermarket.com to get an idea as to whether you renewal quote is reasonable.

put all your details into confused.com they will sent you a quote near your renewal date

I agree with everyone else. It is well worth looking around for a better deal before your insurance runs out. Sometimes if you tell them that another company will insure you for less they suddenly find that they canreduce your premium.

i would look around, and use compare.com, i saved me and DH over £400 on our quotes this year... with esure.com

definitely shop around, take quote back to current insurers, see if they match it, if not, go elsewhere!
