Eur 2,011 net monthly. Use the PWC tax calculator.

He said that , that doesn’t seem a lot of deductions ??

Tax at 20% is 5,400. But Tax Credits are 4,000, so mostly offsetting the income tax. Then PRSI 4.1% social insurance & USC.

Presumably he'll have a tax free allowance. I don't know what it would be in Ireland but will be found by Googling.

Dublin is famously very expensive for housing. Can his prospective employer suggest where he could find a room in a shared house or as a lodger somewhere that's relatively safe but less expensive?

Where in dublin? Commuter towns would be much cheaper to rent a place in depending how long a commute he does not mind having.

Could he get a second job? It's a great opportunity so perhaps a couple of evening shifts in a bar or restaurant would make it easier to live and also be good for social life and making friends.

It used to be completely normal for lower paid young professionals to have 2 jobs.

If he’s renting he’ll get an extra tax credit of 1000k for the year. Will he be paying into a pension? He could opt out of that if so?

Loveduppenguin · 24/04/2025 20:09

It’s also worth mentioning that there is no council tax payments or water payments in Ireland so he won’t have those bills to pay. Just rent, electricity and phone/broadband.

Can he not rent a room? Share an apartment? That is how many people start? Has he got other options? Does he need the experience? Are there opportunities to progress?

He could rent a room somewhere like Navan and get the bus into Dublin.
