Savings tied up in an isa - that pays out good interest later this yr

Been having some ' treatment '
So on ssp etc

If you had short term cash flow potential issue..
Would you use money super market to look at compare the market for a 1k loan or ?

Ultimately i may short term borrow 1k

I can pay it bk in 3 - 4 months max

With no income your options will be limited. There are some credit cards for those with poor credit scores which might work.

My credit rating is good

Will probably talk to my parents - theyve always said to talk to them b4 ever getting any loan

Your credit history might be good. But you will fail affordability scores on SSP.

Can you get a cheap loan from your bank? But yes ask mum and dad first, I would lend (or give) my dd a £1,000 in an instant if she needed it.

A 0% credit card could be an option. Usually have to pay about 3.5% fee for a cash advance but no interest if you pay back within 12 months or so. I've had no issues getting one with an OK credit record and a lowish income. You can check if you can get pre-approval on the MSE checker so it only does a soft check.

Family. Especially as they've said talk to them first.

But it sounds like a lot is going on financially. Do you really need the £1k? Is there any way to do what you need cheaper, or delay, or both?

Long term, what's the plan to get out of this debt cycle?

Bjorkdidit · 24/04/2025 14:34

Many 0% cards are also fee free and can also be used for spending as well as a balance transfer.

If you're not approved, in your circumstances, I'd probably talk to your parents seeing as they've said do that rather than borrowing money and paying interest.

What would be the withdrawal penalty on the ISA compared with the cost of repaying a loan?

PermanentTemporary · 24/04/2025 14:38

Definiyely talk to your parents, even if it's difficult. I have said the same to ds and would be upset if he didn't talk it through with me before getting a loan.

What is the £1k for? Do you think you are getting better? I hope so 🙏

Does the ISA not allow you to access it? I agree that it's better not to but it would be better than getting a loan or credit card.

Family. It could even be a win/win situation, as you could offer to pay your family slightly higher interest than their £1000 is currently earning them elsewhere, but less interest than you would have to pay a lender for a commercial loan (if you could even get a commercial loan in your circumstances).

Assuming your family have the money lying around where they can easily access it, the only disadvantage to them is that loans to relatives are more risky than putting their money in the bank. But I assume they know you well enough to know you are good for it, and you do have the money in the ISA which you will be able to use to repay them, so it is just a cash flow issue for you.
