About £8k. When I was on maternity leave I still put the same amount in the joint account each month (topping up my mat pay) and we didn't really scrimp.

When I had ds 22 years ago, maternity packages were not as good as they are now at my current workplace and I was the main breadwinner. We saved enough for 7 months maternity leave then I had to go back to work.

My share of food, bills fun money etc for 9 months minus SMP, so combined with my 3 months full pay I could have a year off.

I didn’t really. I had a pretty good maternity package and we qualified for tax credits after DS was born as my ex (wasn’t ex then) was in a really low paid temporary job (unexpected event, pay was so bad he was better off on paternity leave as he saved money on travelling there). With my next DS I had the same maternity package and we managed on what we had, ex had a better job by then.

I’m due to go on maternity leave in October but my fixed term contract ended last week and it seems to be really hard to get a job. So it’s looking like I’ll have saved nothing! My DH just about earns enough fortunately but I’ll only get maternity allowance of £180ish per week for 9 months and that’ll be from October.

I had 6 months full pay from my employer, and usually save about 25% of my salary each month.

So for 6 months before mat leave (after 12 week scan) and then the first 6 months of mat leave I diverted those savings from long term to mat leave pot, and it meant I could take a year off on essentially full pay (when factoring in paid holidays and kit days too).

My baby is almost 31.
Mat leave was 6 months.
Almost everyone got statutory which was 90% of salary for six weeks, followed by 12 weeks of SMP which was about £50pw.

We were nearly mid 30s and had good jobs and a house and didn't need to save up.

I went back to work when the baby was 4.5 months and my employer was unusual at the time in allowing me to go back three days a week on condition I was back shortly after Easter.
