Tax Credits and Nursery Support

Hi - wondering if someone could help with the following - I work 3 days a week and tax credit people pay 80% towards cost. After my husband left I moved house which is not near the nursery so my daughter moves to a new nursery in July. However, I knew I was being made redundant so I opted for a full time place (5 days) but Ive been told I wont lose my job til end Sept (minimum) so technically I will only require the nursery 3 days (full time places come up rarely at this nursery) til end Sept.

Im thinking of career changing and thought about doing part time work on the days I dont have my office job whilst my daughter is in the additional days - this work would be small potatoes at the start so not bringing in much income.

If I go to the tax credit people will they give me assistance for the days I dont formally work on or will they say no? I will be working but at the start it will be peanuts that I bring in so Im not trying to dodge any of my legal requirements but I have to be practical about it to financially.

Best wishes

As long as you are still working over 16 hours a week they wll give you 80% help with childcare costs of up to £170 per week for one child (I think its 170 anyway). Its not based on when you work.

Hi Champangeforlunch

Thats great! - I dont know why but I feel really guilty phoning them and I always presume they try and catch people out - but I am honest but just trying to make a better life for my daughter and I!

Merci
