Any Irish accountants out there?

I am inheriting a percentage of my father’s estate who lived and died in Ireland. I now live in the UK. The solicitor is ready to distribute the money, but I need to have a CAT (capital acquisitions tax) clearance certificate from the Irish revenue before they can do that (I have a PPS number already). However, the solicitor can’t tell me what form I need to fill out to get that. No tax will be payable as it’s below the threshold.
Can anyone tell me what form I need to submit? I’m going round in circles trying to work it out!

Hi. I’m not an accountant but I think you just need to submit a CAT return on the revenue.ie website. It’s quite easy to do, I’ve done similar. You can also ring them and they will be able to guide you. I think the CAT office is based in limerick.

Thanks @Shalford - is that the IT38 form?

Yes, that’s the one. You just file all the information. I don’t think you HAVE to do it, it’s just prudent.

Thanks @Shalford

Just give the revenue a ring in the morning and they'll talk you through it. I have always found them very helpful anytime I've needed to ask a question.

I agree, they are super helpful, you wouldn’t think they were but they will help you out. It’s just getting the right department.
