Random payment deposited into bank account?

Hi

Would anyone have any idea what this payment is? My husband has had approx £2000 deposited into his account and we have no idea what it is from. Worried it's a scam but he is awaiting money from solicitors from his dad's estate but they haven't contacted him and previous deposits from them were not like this. Google suggests CMA is child maintenance but we don't look after any random estranged children!

It says Direct CR Pay CMA

Reference begins with SAVV and multiple numbers.

Obviously contacting bank about it as well but just wondered if anyone might know.

Thanks

It could be his dad's estate then, there was an outstanding share being dealt with although the money should be split with my husband and sister and she hasn't received anything. Just odd we haven't heard off the solicitors

Computershare used to do childcare vouchers. You pay out of your salary pre-tax and you log in and direct the vouchers to your childcare provider.

I don't think the scheme is available to new people, but did you ever have anything similar?

Just don’t send a refund to a random person who contacts you as it’s a known scam to pay someone, then contact them to say it’s a mistake and giving you their bank details to pay it back to them, only for the original payment to be recalled by the bank because it’s disputed or stolen/hacked bank account. Leaving you out of pocket.

If anyone contacts you, check them out properly or better still phone your banks fraud dept for advice just in case. Even if someone phones or emails saying they’re from your solicitors or other trusted organisation, don’t do anything until you’ve contacted them back directly using their official phone number or email via their website or letterhead rather than using a phone number given by phone or email etc. Lots of professional fraudsters out there!
