Anyone help? NHS bank work NI contributions

It’s a bit niche and I feel like I’m going round in circles so if anyone can help or explain it better I would be most grateful.

I am a band 5 ft nurse working for an NHS trust paid monthly, paying out tax, NI, student loan and pension.
The trust took our option of overtime away and made us all register as a bank worker for them (I.e. paid single rate rather than overtime rate for additional shifts), I have a BR tax code and separate payroll number for the bank post.
Since working occasional bank shifts I have noticed that if I get paid for my bank work the same week as my normal pay I have to pay NI and student loan repayments out of the bank as well as my normal pay whereas if I’m paid it any other week I do not.

Payroll said my pay will all get aggrated together and I have to pay NI on both wages (even if the bank work is only £100 that week) whereas HMRC say if I think I have overpaid to write to them, online it shows I can earn up to £242 a week in both roles.

Over the year it isn’t a lot of money approximately £100 but it does affect when I will work bank as I will just stop doing any work when it would be due to be paid on pay week (from my normal pay). Also if I don’t owe it I would like it to be in my pocket as opposed to HMRC.

thanks
