will UC claim affect my dad's?

Hi, I had an interview at the job centre earlier today just to do the identity confirmation. For a little context I'm 17 and DS is 1 tomorrow (Can't believe how fast that's gone!) I live at home with my dad who is a single parent who looks after my sister who has autism. He receives PIP in her name and UC for the two of us, I asked if my claim would affect his and was told no but I'm still worried that it will which obviously I do not want to do because he needs that money still for himself and my sister. Could anyone let me know if it will affect how much he gets? If it will affect him a lot I will close my claim because I don't want him to be worse off.

Who told you it wouldn't affect his claim?

If you’re claiming UC as a single parent whilst living with your father, then surely you’d be contributing towards the costs at home?

Of cause it's going to affect dad's claim has you will be claiming for yourself so be taken off his claim he will lose what ever amount he was getting for you.

This.

It depends how much/what you’re going to claim. If you are still on your dad’s claim and make your own claim then yes it will reduce his payment because they aren’t going to pay both you directly AND him for you.

Are you in full time education? Unless you are in full time education, then you won't be on his claim for UC. If you were on his claim for UC, then claiming it yourself will stop your part of his claim.

If he get's a Child Responsibility Element for you then that is going to stop. As above, the DWP are not going to make two payments to support one person.
