UC commitments

Hi, I’m quite new to UC. I’ve been claiming since the tail end of last year. I got 3 months routinely with no issues. I work full time so it’s mainly a top up of children and childcare. It isn’t a massive amount.

Every month since the start of the year I’ve been sent commitments to agree to. Is this normal?

It’s generic stuff and then the bit about sanctions comes up. I’m stressed because if you don’t accept it within about 24 hours or you don’t get paid any UC. With working full time and the kids it’s just a lot, and I’m so worried I’ll forget 😂.

What kind of commitments? The only ones I have had are bringing in a certain salary. Once I got to 19 hours they were happy with that.

@Doggymummar just that if my circumstances change I must tell them. I work 38 hours per week x

So you mean it just asks you if anythings changed? Thats very normal and if nothing has changed its just a tick box exercise. Set a recurring monthly reminder (or two) to make sure you do it in time. Commitments are usually things like jog search or doing a resume or employment course of some kind.

Yeah that's completely normal, commitments are job search hours so long as you are earning over the amount they set I think it's £850? Or thereabouts they just need to know of any changes. Oh I did ten hours overtime and got a extra 200 this month etc. ot if you are on zero hours contract you might have done different hours each month.n

Just put a reminder on your phone to check your UC account once or twice a week. It is normal though.

Weekly is better

ah okay that makes perfect sense Thankyou all!

It sends me an email that goes to spam saying “commitments need acknowledging”

I’ll definitely set some reminders. I wasn’t sure if it was normal to be monthly after having 3/4 months of not needing to, but I feel better now!

Thanks again! 🙂

Weekly is better

OP said every month, if it's weekly obviously she sets it more often.
