Pension contribution not appeared in pension - what can I do?

I asked my employer to pay in to my pension rather than the NEST one. Payment went in fine in October and November. December’s was deducted from my pay but never appeared in my pension. What can I do?
The man who does our payroll said it’s gone out so not his problem I’ve asked for date and transaction info, but so far no response. I feel a bit stuck.

Have you tried speaking to your pension provider to see if they can provide any details on receiving the monies from your employer?

There can be a delay for the payment showing up in your account. It will appear at some point. I wouldnt worry about it.

Yes. They can only see what I can see. First two months no problem, nothing last month.

The first two months took 10 days to clear. This is over 30 days late. Do you think that’s still a reasonable delay? (I hope so! I didn’t realise there was still a chance it’d arrive).

I have had a delay of almost 2 months and it has gone in in the end. I would just keep an eye onnit and if nothing appears by the end of February chase it up.

They have to pay by 22nd of the month after - I.e. 22 Jan. So it is payroll man’s problem as a breach of law! Say you want proof of payment. If it happens repeatedly or more than 90days late, the pensions regulator might be interested!

claudiaswinklemen · 30/01/2025 18:54

But he is saying he has paid it.
Edit - and it's been deducted from my pay. (I presume it has, I never get a payslip and have to ask every month for one).

ask your provider to escalate this- they will be able to see somewhere if a payment was made and just not applied as yet. If it hasn’t been applied as yet I would want to know why and ask for a loss assessment to be done. You pay into a pension for it to grow, not to sit in their cash account.

also chase up your employer for the payment confirmation, so that you have more information to provide to your provider during your enquiries.

Find a job with a non dodgy employer.

ChessieFL · 30/01/2025 19:01

He may have paid it but if the pension provider hasn’t received it he needs to look into why. He can’t just wash his hands of it. You should also be getting payslips - that’s a legal requirement (they can be provided electronically, but they must be provided).

Ultimately you can report your employer to The Pensions Regulator and The Pensions Ombudsman but you would be expected to exhaust your employer’s/pension provider’s complaints process first.

This does not sound like a professional place at all and I’d be worried they hadn’t made the contribution on time/correctly/with the necessary employer to employee split as per auto enrolment and your contract.

claudiaswinklemen · 30/01/2025 19:09

The employee/employer split wasn't done in month one, but I sorted that out with the pension provider and got my tax sorted. I mentioned it to payroll. It was correctly split in month two.

That doesn't sound good. It sounds like they aren't totally above board.

claudiaswinklemen · 30/01/2025 20:32

I mean I get a payslip, just never automatically.
