lost share certificates - what to do?

I remembered tonight that we bought some shares in Egg plc when they first floated, back in 2000. I think we bought £1000 worth of shares but I can't really remember.
At the time they sent me an email which was supposedly the 'share certificate', of course that email is long, long gone. They never sent out paper docs.
Any idea how I can find out how much these shares are worth now and how I can 'reclaim' them? Egg has since been sold to Citibank and of course I have no idea what the issue price was, anyway.

The best thing to do is to find out who the share registrar for Egg plc is ...

If you contact them they can point you in the right direction - most probably, if the certificate is in paper form, you will have to sign an indemnity and they will re-issue for a fee...

I am not sure but I think you need to contact Citibank now, their website says:
