I’m so excited I have to share this!!

I received the news yesterday that I was successful in getting a promotion in work. I’m so excited and relieved I could cry! It’s over 10k payrise, I’m still in shock. Can’t share it with others in real life yet. It works out at about an extra 550 a month! I’m going to save most of it to be honest but it’s just so exciting. Just had to share. If I save 450, and use 100 towards monthly expenses then that will be a huge help. Unless anyone has better suggestions, I know everyone will think differently as it’s financial position dependent.

Woohoo!! 🙌🏻 congrats OP.

I’d save the entire 550 for the first 3 or 4 months to build up a nice pot (minus a treat/takeaway of course!!). Then after a few paychecks I’d divvy it up a little more.

I tend to do it the opposite way round and spend the first month's pay rise - usually on something material and long term like a new coat or new boots or a cutlery set or I got a second hand Kenwood for one (not particularly big) pay rise. Then I save them after that.

This is lovely! Congrats!

This is a nice idea. I will treat myself a little but I am determined to save as much as I can this year so that is a huge motivator! Thank you ☺️

Buy something nice though as well. A treat! New bag for work or fancy water bottle

2chocolateoranges · 18/01/2025 17:27

If I get a new job or a pay rise I always treat myself that first month whether it’s some jewellery, some clothes or a massage. Something nice as a reward basically.

then I would try and save it all each month.

Edited to say Well done! 👏

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/01/2025 17:33

Well done Op 🎉

Nourishinghandcream · 18/01/2025 18:47

Many years ago (when I still had a mortgage) I reached a point where my salary comfortably covered all my outgoings and allowed a good cushion of savings.
From that day on, whenever I got a pay rise or increment, the extra money went straight onto the mortgage or pension.
It was amazing the difference it made with my mortgage being paid off years earlier than it otherwise have been and my pension permitting me to retire several years early (ten in fact).

Of course there were times where I needed to use the increases to cover the rising COL but these were minimal.

Congrats on the new job.👍

merryandbrightdelight · 18/01/2025 18:48

Congratulations!

PMAmostofthetime · 18/01/2025 19:02

Congratulations.

Be careful who you share with in real life.
Share the promotion maybe not the pay rise amount- the least unexpected can start to take advantage not transferring you for things you booked etc

BelgianBeers · 18/01/2025 21:10

Well I always think a treat the first month then pretend it never happened and save the rest. I have managed to live by this enough times to really benefit!

I will treat myself a little then, maybe a water bottle and some new work pants for the days I don’t feel like wearing jeans.

What lovely news to read! And an extra boost for you coming out of a divorce. ❤️

Thisismeme · 19/01/2025 12:16

I would save £400, add £100 to monthly expenses and £50 for myself/family treat

I think you deserve to treat yourself if you can afford it - you’ve done amazing to secure the role

sleepwouldbenice · 24/01/2025 00:31

Blooming well done. Especially being in the context of a single parent where you are stretched in every direction
I second allocating a little for allowing treats, some for savings, some for pension.
Well done again

Crushed23 · 24/01/2025 00:55

Congratulations!

I would treat yourself in the first month of higher pay then start saving. £550 on a present for yourself as a little well done for your achievement - perhaps some new clothes, jewellery or a weekend away.

I treated myself to a pair of fabulous earrings when I got my new job. Wear them every day. 😁

GreenLeaf25 · 24/01/2025 01:08

Im so pleased for you! You obviously deserved it and they value you, so take huge pride in that. Take time to celebrate you!!
