Child benefit question

FoxtrotIndigoSierraHotel · 15/01/2025 23:21

We get CB for our three children currently. This year we, very luckily and very unexpectedly, have been gifted the money to pay private school fees for our three DC. One was starting secondary, one sixth form and we were already paying for one due to Sen not being met at state.

Both DH and I earn under the threshold for CB but this gift would take us over. Apparently, it is from a educational trust set up by a non immediate relative and so is to be used solely for that purpose.

Will the receipt of this mean we no longer qualify for CB and I will have to pay back this years?

Thanks

Since the gift is specifically for school fees and isn't personal income (i.e. it’s earmarked for a specific purpose), it likely wouldn’t be treated as taxable income for the purpose of Child Benefit eligibility.
