Nice promotion Hmm

Feelingstrange2 · 09/01/2025 15:40

Chances are they spin a line to look more successful than they are to achieve (probably low intelligence/vulnerable) subscribers paying a few pounds a month to listen to their ego-boosting diatribe.

Some will then gain an income from advertising to this "fan base"

But do not believe everything you read!

whymewhyme · 09/01/2025 15:48

@ploppiness sorry?

Yeah I thought as much, she doesn't seem to all the free stuff that others get. 60k a month does seem alot for someone who just does videos with no promotion.

Tbh I'm sick of seeing them all at it. No offence to her but it's just everywhere, time for social media break 🤣

That would amount to about 20 million views on TikTok & YouTube a month, maybe less if they are very popular. Are they hitting those kind of numbers?

People are largely dim I think.
One of the influencers I follow (social worker/educator ) and at the end of a piece about the grooming scandals commented that an enquiry into the guy Fawkes scandal should be created ( an obvious non serious call) Following day She had to explain that the gun powder plot took place 500 years ago and there was no need for an enquiry... A significant number of people were willing to lead a clamour to have it investigated.

I also think it's fake it until.you make it.

I think it's tenuous, a pack of cards and a juggling act.
A small percentage succeeding like with anything else.

Just look at DanTDM a v successful youtuber - recently got a gig at classic FM

she doesn't seem to push products
literally all of her stories are affiliate links to the TikTok store and pretty much her whole TikTok is pushing TikTok store products.

she won’t be earning 60k. But with her numbers and TikTok store conmission she’s probably making a decent amount. The 60k a month in the kitchen like that is such blatant rage bait, to get everyone commenting 60k no you don’t etc for engagement.

I wonder how they appear to make so much money, I only watch a couple of them on YouTube who have 100k subscribers, they only seem to advertise Hello Fresh or some vitamin company that I’ve never heard of yet this seems to fund holidays, shopping trips, full house renovations, facial tweakments and new teeth, either YouTube pays very well or they have another source of income somewhere.

tailinthejam · 09/01/2025 16:31

£60k a month. Who told you that figure for that person?

VeronicaBeccabunga · 09/01/2025 16:34

Someone I know has a fairly niche interest in a very male-dominated field.
She has a modest Instagram following for her posts and short videos.
A maker of a product in her area of interest approached her to do a review, for which they offered a free item and the possibility of further gifts and maybe payment. No doubt they hoped to appeal to women in their market.
She said making the video they wanted was really difficult with no expensive editing software. What she produced was returned to her with really exacting criticism and she was required to make the edits herself, along the lines of 'You paused too long at this point' or 'You used the word 'nice' twice, use different words'.
Because of the job she does, [totally unrelated to her 'hobby'] she had to declare the free gift and to accept payment would have been difficult, so she put in a lot of time and effort for not much return.
We actually ended up thinking that being 'an influencer' is probably harder work that it looks 😂

I used to be a model and the amount of brands who would contact me wanting me to basically do all the leg work in return for a freebie is astounding. They’re basically asking for the work of a model/ actor, a videographer, editor and presenter in one. And where they would normally pay £100s for such professionals to advertise their products they now contact the naive and gullible to do all that work for free in return for a freebie. The same freebie that the influencer is making a video about that can take many hours to film, edit and put together and after the influencer has finished doing all the leg work, doing the work of 4 people for a shitty little freebie, the company will then make sales from that content that the influencer did all the work for, yet the influencer won’t see a penny from those sales. But hey that’s ok because they got a freebie lol.

So when these companies contact me I tell them they either need to pay me or not contact me to expect free labour.

tailinthejam · 09/01/2025 17:18

My experience is the other way round. I once worked for an independent tour operator which organised niche and very expensive adventure holidays (like birdwatching up Kilimanjaro, but not that) and we were contacted by someone (said she was a travel journalist) who basically conned my boss out of a free holiday based on her writing some long blog and getting us loads of business via her advertising it, and writing articles for travel supplements and so on. Needless to say, she had her lovely holiday and that was that. We got nothing out of it at all.

Bankholidayhelp · 09/01/2025 19:10

A cake maker on insta (Agnes DeSucre) regularly calls out companies/ individuals wanting freebie cakes in return for 'content' . She would much rather they bought a cake!

She said she earns too much to claim child benefit.

She said she earns too much to claim child benefit.

So £80k a year then

hopeishere · 09/01/2025 19:26

They are paid to promote stuff and can charge high rates for doing it! Like thousands of pounds.

They sell their own products. Eg hats / fleeces.

They set themselves up as social media "experts" and other people employ them.

They get lots of free stuff eg holidays. Creates an image that attracts more businesses to them.

Affiliate links.

I would love to know are the companies they work with closely tracking sales against investment. How many bookings does a free holiday for someone who could afford to pay for it elicit.

The one that absolutely grinds my gears though is "looking for recommendations". Translation "will someone give me this for free".

DragonFly98 · 09/01/2025 19:27

Yikesthathurt · 09/01/2025 19:25

So £80k a year then

Yes, it will be at least 80k as she is saying she isn’t entitled to any. She didn’t mention a specific figure

Shes not her posts are all about winding people up as it creates more engagement.... she's quite open about it and if you read the comments it's why people are always laughing as they take her posts serious. More people that comment or like a post, more its pushed out which means more income they get.
