Hi wondered if anyone could help me with regards to working out whether i would be better off cutting my hours down at work, as tax credits credits have cut our money down and we have expensive nursery fees, so thinking maybe if i worked part time would be less nursery fees and might get more help from tax credits. just wanted to know how many hours i would have to work, for us to get the same money or be better off. thanks for any help

I'd suggest you go onto the tax credits hotline, tell them how much you'd be earning if you do cut your hours down, and they should be able to give you an idea of what tc you'd get.

Or if you go online I think there's a calculator.

That's what I done to get joint incomes under the limit to get tax credits, and I was paying 40% tax. However, just dropping 7 hours a week as well as paying nursery £500 per month has made a huge dent in monthly income.

It really depends on circumstances though. Can you work any hours from home? Its unlikely the government will pay you as much as your employers will....
