Never been on UC but will i be entitled on mat leave

i am becoming a single mum, currently 32 weeks pregnant and starting my mat leave shortly due to pregnancy complications.

The breakup was unexpected and i did not think i would be in this position hence why i haven't looked into this but when my mat leaves starts I will be entitled to 16 weeks full paid wages from my employer then after i will be on standard allowance

i am questioning whether or not i would be entitled to UC because i have a mortgage with my ex (he no longer lives at the property) but does help me pay the bills as they are in joint names and because i am having a child with him.

we have agreed this is a better option for us then for him to pay child support as it means i can continue living in the property without struggling however i know that when my pay drops i will then struggle to make payments towards the bills and i understand my ex is now renting and paying his own bills and i don't want to ask for more money as i know he will suggest that he moved back into the property (which i do not want)

when i go back to work full time i will be purchase the property from him and putting it into my name along with bills etc but its not possible now due to maternity leave starting.

if anyone can offer advised i would appreciate it as i don't want to do anything to get myself into trouble

What Blut doing 1 or 2 KIT days each month? Might help.

Sorry I don't know the answer but I recommend calling Maternity Action, Working Families, and/or Gingerbread. They all have really skilled advisors who know everything there is to know about mat pay and benefits.
Good luck x

How much savings do you have?

Bromptotoo · 20/12/2024 12:34

If you have an interest a property you don't live in that may be seen as capital and exclude you from UC but there are some circumstances in which capital can be disregarded.

Contact Help to Claim and they will talk you through it.

@SuzeL1997 re reading your OP I think I misunderstood and that in fact you live in the property upon which you and the ex have a mortgage.

If that's the case its value would be disregarded while you continue to live in it.
