Tax question

I have recently been offered a full time fixed term contract from January until end of July. My current employer has kindly allowed a type of sabbatical where they reduce my hours to 4 a week with a contract amendment, and in August I will go back to them full time.

What happens with tax for this? My current job will effectively become my 2nd job as it's only 4 hours per week, and the fixed job will be my main job.

I would suggest logging onto the HMRC portal using your government ID and when you are working two jobs both will be on there and you can tell HMRC your annual expected salary for the tax year each. They will then contact your employers with the correct tax code.

Call HMRC tell them your expected earnings from each job for the period 6 April 24 to 5 April 25 then let them sort your tax code out.

Thank you

You'll be taxed on your overall pay for the tax year from both jobs combined.

How much do you expect to earn in the new job? How much do you earn in the current one?
