You choose a premade portfolio based on what level of risk you're comfortable with. Those who favour low risk will opt for portfolios with a high bond versus stocks percentage. This is all very clearly laid out within the platform and largely foolproof.

Do you already have cash savings (ISA or standard savings account) of at least a few months living expenses, if not put the £5k in that first.

The suggestion is usually to invest in something that tracks market performance worldwide. If you opt for this, you could choose this: https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/investments/vanguard-ftse-global-all-cap-index-fund-gbp-acc/overview or this https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/investments/vanguard-ftse-all-world-ucits-etf-usd-accumulating/overview

A lot of people suggest to go with this too: https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/investments/vanguard-s-and-p-500-ucits-etf-usd-distributing/overview It is US specific so the risk is a bit high although the past performance is much better the the first two I mentioned.

Please note that if you invest through Vanguard in any of the options mentioned above, you need to buy the whole ETF. For instance, if each ETF cost £210, then you can only put in £4830.

You could also put your money in LifeStrategy which offers different level of set up/risks categories. I don't know much about Lifestrategy to be honest. But from what I know, Lifestrategy is biased towards UK (holding more UK shares), so it will be affected much more by UK growth etc.

@Marmut

Hi

I have the life strategy ones but it's good to diversify. I take it the 500 ones are more risky?

Are the stock funds you suggested part of a S&S isa as well

Thanks
