UC sick leave query

Hi everyone,
I recently had an open surgery which requires a 6 week recovery period. Therefore I have declared fo UC that I will be on sick leave as I have had surgery.
Now uc have sent me a work assessment form (which I have filled out) and I have written that I do not give them consent for them to obtain my medical records (I dont mind them obtaining info about my health condition and the nature of my surgery) but I'm not happy about them going through all my medical info (previous health issues, personal details etc).
Now someone called and asked for my permission if they could contact my gp and hospital (where I had my surgery) to confirm whether they are genuine doctors.
I just want to ask are they being for real??? I said yes they can call anyway but I'm hoping they dont mistake this and think I have given them permission to access my medical records because I have not. I stated in my form and journal I do not give them permission to do this

If you're only going to be off for six weeks and the UC50 isn't usually triggered until 28 days after you file medical evidence is the WCA actually going to be completed?

I don't think the wording of UC50 form allows DWP to 'access your medical records'. What is asked on page 18 is whether you consent for your GP or other medical professionals to give DWP more information about your health conditions. If you refuse that consent then they will proceed on the information they have.

If you're applying on the basis of having had 'open surgery' why do you think DWP will be interested in totally different issues that might be in your past?

Refusing consent is, to my mind, cut off nose to spite face territory.
