To fix of not to fix? Gas & Elec

For the last few years, the gas and electricity prices have been pretty volitile and there has been little point in fixing. Is it worth fixing now though? Are prices going to come down after the small rise in January? Yet again my supplier are offering a fix at below January prices and now I am wondering if it could be worth it? What does everyone think? Are prices likely to continue to rise?

Upon advice like Martin Lewus, I have fixed a year with EDF today. The cap is going up in January. 🙂

Money is saving expert saying after the 1% rise the prediction is it'll go up another 2% then come down 3%. So it's predicted to be the same as it is now next Oct to Dec.

I fixed just before the October rise

I won't be.

Fixing*

Landlubber2019 · 22/11/2024 18:44

We fixed a couple of months ago!

I've just done a fix. I don't know whether that is the right thing to have done. Paying energy bills these days seems akin to playing the roulette tables in a casino.

Mamofteenager · 22/11/2024 18:53

I fixed today aswell as advised by Martin Lewis. I would rather have the peace of mind then keep playing the guessing game of what they will be next!

Out of curiosity, why don’t you think there’s a point in fixing it? Most suppliers allow to switch to another tariff at any time. I’ve switched several times, so always paid less than the price cap

CeeJay81 · 22/11/2024 19:16

@NewUserNewName we are on a sort of fix just below the cap but i don't think it one that is fixed for a set time like the ones they are offering atm. Your right though, it looks like there is only a exit fee if you change supplier. So have decided I'm going to fix. Just deciding whether to go for 12 or 18 months.

My fix doesn't have an exit fee.

dementedpixie · 22/11/2024 20:37

You've just prompted me to check and I've just changed my tariff again to a 12 month fix that's has slightly cheaper prices per kwh than my current fix. No exit fees
