PIP renewal - how long is it taking?

I sent in all my paperwork for the renewal at least 8 weeks ago and haven’t heard anything. Has anyone had theirs renewed recently and if so, how long did it take?

PIP renewals are currently taking up to a year as there is a shocking backlog and they are prioritizing new claims. I have had one client at work recently who received her renewal decision fifteen months after we sent the form in ! If awards are running out whilst people wait, they are just extending the award. the whole system is in chaos. I wouldn't expect a decision anytime soon.

oneeggisunoeuf · 21/11/2024 20:49

My forms were sent back at the end of February. I just received my fourth "we still have your PIP form and will be processing it as soon as possible" notification. I've been told that the time in my area (West Yorkshire) is a year at least.

BobbyBiscuits · 21/11/2024 20:52

There's an enormous backlog. My forms have been trapped in the system for 2 years, and they've just extended my award again.
So it could be years. If you're already on it. I think they are trying to prioritise the new claims. There's a backlog of over a quarter of a million of them. If you get a higher rate I think it will be backpaid. I hope so anyway.

Oh goodness! Sounds like it will take a while then! Thanks everyone.

Yes- a year I have heard. Mine was started in April, had a text saying they had got it then a couple over the months saying something like they still had it.

I have seen a specialist in the meantime though and have sent that letter in; I am just updating them as times goes on. I had a med review and sent them that as well.

It's quite stressful. I had to appeal in the past and the thought of that after all this is not easy to deal with. Fingers crossed it gets sorted out Ok this time.

tribpot · 21/11/2024 21:26

Same kind of story here. Sent off in June, had maybe one, maybe two texts to say 'we'll get to you eventually'. I'm in West Yorkshire as well @oneeggisunoeuf so will hunker down for a long wait!

Scutterbug · 21/11/2024 22:15

I sent in loads of supporting evidence, hope they don’t lose it!

My forms were sent back beginning of January, Had 3 of the “we still have your form” messages. Then I received a letter extending for 12 months a few weeks ago. @oneeggisunoeuf @tribpot West Yorkshire here too

Hello,
Just asking the people who are waiting for their renewal award, are you still getting paid or have those payments been suspended until they catch up? As someone mentioned back dated pay??
Good luck to you all!!! ✨️

Mine is still being paid.

Still being paid and renewed for another year. It's annoying for things like Blue Badge and railcard renewal, and car tax exemption.

dontcallmelen · 27/11/2024 17:21

Mine took ten months, got a couple of the generic texts an extension of a year via letter in June confirmation of new award came in October.
so you could be in for quiet a long wait OP hope all goes well.
mine was still being paid whilst awaiting for renewal decision.

itsgettingweird · 27/11/2024 17:27

We sent ds renewal forms back about 10 months before it expired.

Got a letter a month after it expired to say renewed for year

Then 2 months after that got a renewal for 4 years.

Applesandoranges1997 · 24/01/2025 20:44

Hi, does anyone know the wait time for PIP please.
I suffer really bad with sciatica and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) I struggle mentally to do things for myself but I care for my children and I am worried this will go against me because of that. On my lowest days I could stay in bed but I obviously have no choice but to get up and care for my children. Does anyone know if this will affect anything? Thankyou

I sent dhs renewal back last September. It had been awarded for 3 years which will be up in April 25 but was asked to send renewal forms back last September. We've still not heard anything. I'm concerned that if they just renew it for another year as others have said they might do, will we have to fikk fill all those horrendous forms in again after a year?

Orangesandlemons77 · 26/01/2025 15:08

Mine is also up in April and was asked to send in the form last April, still not heard anything.

I don't think you have to fill in the forms again if this happens

Marilyn17 · 26/01/2025 15:23

@Orangesandlemons77 thank you. I can't face doing all those forms again so soon and it cost me a fortune in photocopying at the library. I was hoping I'd have a couple of years at least to recover from doing them this time! I'm just dreading it getting awarded for a year from April as they have such a backlog, then getting the renewal form through the post again after a year! Also, if it's awarded for less than 2 years I think you have to reapply for it yourself, they don't send renewal forms out, I think they only automatically send the forms if you are awarded it for 2 years or more, that's another worry!

TheFairyCaravan · 26/01/2025 15:35

I sent my forms in at the beginning of February last year, with almost 500 pages of supporting evidence. I had a letter around about the 17th of December to tell me it was being extended for a year, then 2 days later I got a text to say they’d made a decision. I was on pins so phoned them, although they ask you not to, and my award stayed the same for 6 years, which is what is was last time.

Marilyn17 · 26/01/2025 15:41

@TheFairyCaravan I'm so glad to hear that you were rewarded it for a decent length of time.

That is good news, mine was also six years later and hoping for the same, might consider just appealing with length of award if not. it's so stressful undergoing all this every year or so.

Unfortunately mine has a few changes as I have a new condition which I know will cause problems but the original ones are still the same. I thought I had better tell them but wishing things were just the same as that would have been easier in some ways.
