Bailiff email

I've had an email tonight from a bailiff and it's really made me panic. I have several debts that I'm in various payment plans for with different debt collection agencies but they are all under arrangement - unless this is another debt that I have lost track of so I'm currently sifting through everything from years back.

However the email has come from a gmail account ([email protected]), and contains no information about what the debt is for or how much it is for, it isn't really written very well and has no phone number or company details to get in touch, it just says to email them? The subject says Final Notice but this is the first email I've had from them. I'm not sure it is legit?

This is very sneakily worded. It says that they will apply to the court if they don't get an order but they haven't yet. It's a final warning. Without a court order I'm pretty sure they can't start seizing your goods. I think it's an email trying to force you to respond and ask what debt it's for

Redglitter · 12/11/2024 00:43

I cant imagine a bailiff would suggest someone takes out a personal loan to pay them.

If you Google the name Mark Taylor bailiff there's several articles - one from Action Fraud - warning he's a fraudster

DandyTealSeal · 12/11/2024 00:43

This screams fraud!! I would not respond at all.

Barabajagal · 12/11/2024 00:44

Pretty sure this is a scam.

bluecampbell · 12/11/2024 00:46

This smacks of a scam to me. I've just googled and found this which is worded almost exactly as yours is - www.justanswer.co.uk/scottish-law/p6mm4-received-bailiff-email-don-t-think-real.html

From the response it seems this is a scam, as First Enforcement don't appear to exist. I'd check with the companies you have arrangements with (maybe one of them has heard of this scam) but I wouldn't be worrying about this.

bluecampbell · 12/11/2024 00:47

To be clear, when I say "from the response" I mean the response on the Just Answer question.....

cariaaad · 12/11/2024 00:57

The wording and the grammar is not good and there is no way a debt collection agency would suggest you take out a loan to pay them. It's a scam. Ignore.

HelpMeGetThrough · 12/11/2024 03:07

Do a Companies House check on them. Probably find they don't exist.

aveenobambino · 12/11/2024 03:57

Click and open the full email address this came from. Looks like a scam to me

Brahumbug · 12/11/2024 05:23

The whole thing is just gibberish, you don't apply to a bailiff for a court order😅. Definitely a scam

MarketValveForks · 12/11/2024 05:35

No genuine agency is going to use a gmail account. This is clearly a fraud. Do not respond. The fraudsters may have obtained your details as someone more likely to be fooled if you already have multiple arrangements like this.

LIZS · 12/11/2024 09:14

Agree probably a scam. Are the creditors likely to have your email address? It does not say who they are acting on behalf of. Can you speak to the court where a ccj is likely to be lodged. Correspondence from them will come by post.

peachweach · 12/11/2024 15:34

Thanks all, I've had a reply which I've added below. They mention Marshall Hoarse debt collectors but when I googled this I can only find Marshall Hoares (so a slight misspelling) and according to Companies House this company was dissolved in 2014? I think I'm reading that correctly anyway!
I know it's probably a scam like you all say but I can't help but still worry😩

I get same email today with same money.

aveenobambino · 12/11/2024 18:25

Definitely a scam

PalmedOlive · 12/11/2024 19:42

Debt adviser at CAB here. This is total bollocks. No bailiff can come and seize goods unless there’s a court order you haven’t complied with (CCJ or fines order in magistrates court).Even then if it’s not a business debt they can’t sieze goods unless you’ve signed a controlled goods agreement and not kept up with the payments. Also they would get solicitors to do the court application (or do it themselves). They wouldn’t use bailiffs to do this unless they had a legal arm of the business. Never seen that before. And there’s no details of the creditor or how much you owe.

PalmedOlive · 12/11/2024 19:44

Quick google shows this is a scam !

LadyGabriella · 12/11/2024 20:03

Do not pay them anything. Ignore and delete

messybutfun · 12/11/2024 20:11

If they have a detachment of earnings, why are they collecting goods as well?

As has been pointed out, it is rubbish English and none of this makes sense.

I’ve had this too, I sent an email back telling them I’d report them to the fraud investigation team, they then had the nerve to respond that they are “genuine”

I received the same email, I replied and told them I’d report them to the fraud investigation team to which they replied this… did anything happen as I’m also worrying?

Fupoffyagrasshole · 24/03/2025 09:32

Scam ! The way it’s worded is terrible

also no way they would use a gmail address if legit

just block

retirementislooming · 24/03/2025 09:34

I worked in debt recovery for a decade. This looks like a scam to me. The wording isn't professional at all! You must know whether you've missed any payments? And if you had, that creditor would have written to you. Also, a CCJ leading to an attachment of earnings order would stop there - they wouldn't take your stuff as well. SCAM.
