Please can anyone help? I moved over to UC this year. I work in a school and it has been announced a pay deal has been agreed and as a result this will lead to backpay. Can I pay this into my pension?

We get a pay rise back dated every year (local government) every Dec we get a lump sum of pay increase that's backdated to April. Every Dec I get no UC as a result. I get it, I've"earnt" more that month. But it's annoying that others (usually 2 full time income households...) talk about it being great, just in time for Christmas etc. When I don't benefit in the same way.

You may be able to pay it into your pension, will depend on the scheme.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that NHS staff with large sums of back pay could have in in monthly installments rather than as a lump sum.

Do I just ask on my journal about the pension?

Bear in mind you probably have an LGPS scheme, which isn't really geared to accept lump sums.

Set up an AVC ... just pay tge minimum each .month then up it when you get your back pay

I’ve done lump sums into LGPS but their speed of admin isn’t great so it’s never managed to coincide with the back pay. It’s meant I got zero UC in back pay month and a much larger UC payment when the lump sum AVC was eventually deducted. Notify your employer payroll as well and keep copies / screenshots of any online payment as I’ve had admin issues with evidencing the payment before. Having the AVC already set up would be a better solution than one off payments which seem to take forever to be processed.
