Have tried talking and offering a new payment plan but it's not being accepted, can anyone who has been through this tell me what the best next step is for me, unfortunately I don't have the cash to pay the debt in full, which is £11,000...

Have you had debt advice? Contact CAB or Stepchange asap. They can apply (or help you apply) for breathing space while you get debt help.
As it's a secured loan, it's more important to make payments on this, above any unsecured debts like credit cards etc.

Yes, been in touch with both, CAB told me to keep paying it which I am, and I've done an expenditure form with step change, which shows I can pay only a £100 more per month than I'm paying, which I don't think is going to be enough...my home is valued at £200,000, I really don't want to lose or sell my home for £11,000 but don't think I'm going to have a choice 😞

If you are making regular payments as shown on affordability calculation, then I can't imagine that you would be made to sell your home.
Don't miss payments. As said before, always prioritise payment of secured loans/priority debts above others.

Don't use any company that charge for help. There's plenty of information online on Stepchange, gov.uk, cab etc

Making a plan to pay your debts

Work out what you can afford and make a plan for paying debts like credit cards, store cards and payday loans.

Thank you for that,I've already been in contact with stepchange, but this other info will also be a help, I just don't understand why all of a sudden they are asking for full payment, I recently did a new income/expenditure form with new payment which was accepted, and now they say that the term for this loan ended in 2019 and full payment is due

@NeatScroller if the term for the loan ended in 2019 and you were paying up to date before that - why would anything at all be due? I'm not quite understanding the scenario - or were you just paying an interest only loan?

twomanyfrogsinabox · 09/11/2024 21:12

Can you get another loan to pay this one off?

Has the loan been overdue since 2019? I can understand that might be a big problem.

Have had arrears on it,long story, but was paying extra money per month, and I wasn't aware that the term ended in 2019!!I only had a review on it 3 months ago and set up new payment plan and nothing was said about term ending in 2019

Maybe, but I don't really want to go down the route, this is the only debt that I have, I was going through debt management to see where I'm at first
