Gifting/saving money for adult DC US trip

One of my DCs (over 18) is planning a big trip to the USA next year and with Christmas approaching they've asked for money for the trip as their gift.
Is there a way I can do this without a) giving them dollars or b) giving them sterling for them to put in an account of their own?
Reason for asking is I don't want there to be a temptation for money to be used for any other purpose (long back story) and dollars could just get lost (or exchanged). Not sure if it could be an account I open and load - not just with Christmas gift but also birthday money etc)- and then hand over to them closer to the time of the trip?
Any more creative or practical ideas welcomed. Thanks

How about a gift voucher for one of the things they want to experience whilst there? Lots nowadays can be booked flexibly and they can add dates later.

Or something like a US Starbucks giftcard (or whatever they enjoy) ~ so they never have to deliberate over affording a coffee/muffin?

Trouble is you either trust them or you don’t. I’m your place I’d be putting money aside in my own savings. When your dc is ready to book the plane tickets then offer to pay with the savings either in part or whole. That way you know it will go on the holiday.

@LittleRedRidingHoody thank you. Great idea which I will probably use for 'stocking filler' type physical presents

@GrannyRose15 yes, If I could open a dedicated account it would maybe feel more 'physical' for DC but if that's not practical then the ££ from me is certainly squirrelled away in a separate pot to provide at the appropriate time so it's just how to 'present' it in the meantime.

Can they open a revolut or monzo account? and you hold control?

(on an aside, there is an offer for referring people, so if you dont already have one of these accounts, and fancy doing me a favour - please pm me for a code :-) I wont post here as it can be a bit spammy to post codes etc)

Get some UD dollars and hand them over a month before they leave.
