Compensation for a fall

Yesterday I was in my local shopping centre car park and slipped on some grease and dislocated my knee. It was excruciating and I needed morphine and etonox before I could even be moved to hospital. It was worse than childbirth and I've been told today it's going to take at least 6 weeks to heal. My patella is also broken. I'm thinking of proceeding with a claim for compensation but haven't a clue where to start. The yellow pages is full of personal injury lawyers and it seems like a minefield.
Can anyone advise me?

sorry don't really know any solicitors in that area. As a rule watch out with some firms doing personal injury work. as a rule go for a firm of solicitors and a reasonably big one if you can. I'd look at firms in Peterborough, Cambridge or Norwich. It won't be quick, expect it take over a year!

dh said that depending on the severity of the injury and the outcome (ie if it will mend) it would be worth between 4 and 20 grand (the latter obv if you are left with pain forever)

That is general damages (ie pain and suffering etc) - on top of that would be loss of earnings etc.

However you would have to prove that they were negligent so if they keep records showing they have maintained the area properly then you are stuffed.

He did tell me a firm but have forgotten, will get back to you on that

as a former lawyer who did work for defendant insurers on PI cases, I don't feel for such a nasty injury you are being money grabbing or ridiculous for contemplating a claim. as CD and others have said, it is not likely to be a straightforward claim, as the car park could be off the hook if they can show they have good maintenance procedures. www.legal500.com isn't a bad starting point for finding a good PI firm. Otherwise you may have legal expenses cover on your household or motor insurance or as an add on to your credit cards.

This is the firm he said

why is it that accidents are no longer accidents? why does someone always have to pay?

and sorry but to me it does sound as if the op is being money-grabbing from this statement

"That is not to mention the huge emotional impact it's already having on my life." sounds straight out of an ambulance chasing advert. .

My nan claimed from our local councel when she fell over a manhole cover that was not properly secured and sticking out above the pavement. She broke both her wrists and she received £1200. Mind you this was about 15 years ago, so I'm sure that "injury lawyers for you" will be able to do better. .

It is worth checking with your home insurance company, because if you have legal protection built in to the policy then your insurers will refer you to a firm of solicitors and pay your legal bill.
