I feel like everytime I step foot out the door money is spent.

We are a family of 4. Me and DH work. Just looking for different ways people save money/ manage money.

Work out how much you can save and set up a standing order into savings the day the money comes in, just like any other bill. If its not there you can't spent it

Asd PP says, if the money is not in your current account you can't spend it. Arrange for some to be transferred on payday and have it put into an account that is NOT easy access (not such a large amount as to leave you short).
Does your employer have any savings schemes where the money is deducted at source (share save for example)?

I have a budget on an excel spreadsheet and I move money into savings on pay day, rather than saving what I have left. I save money every month for xmas and bday’s, so having a few bdays in one month doesn’t have a hit.

I do a weekly shop online and try not to go to the shops in between if i can help it. I take my own lunch to work, so don’t need to pop out, saves a fair amount each week. I do enjoy meals with friends, so i don’t deny myself but i’m planning on purchasing a house in the next 18 months and i’m a single income house with 3 kids (only one permanently at home now as grown up). So I don’t want to fritter money away. Haven’t had a big holiday in 2yrs but been doing some short city breaks with DS1 which is cheap and fun!

Look at what you're buying and how you can avoid spending the money or at least reduce the cost.

If its food, drinks, snacks etc, take food and drink with you where possible or plan to go somewhere cheaper.

Eg Greggs and McDonald's coffee is half the price of coffee shops.

Supermarkets obviously much cheaper for pastries, multipacks of crisps, drinks or ice creams or other on the go food. A supermarket meal deal can be reasonable value and certainly much cheaper than similar food in cafes.

For entry to attractions there's nearly always a discount available so always look for those before walking up to the gate and paying full price.

Or get annual passes and rotate around, eg I've just bought a National Art Pass which will pay for itself in just a few visits to a particular place I would go most weeks if money was no object but I can also use it for free entry for lots of other places. Or there's National Trust or similar.

What sorts of things are you spending money on, that you're looking to cut back on?

Go through your last 3 months of statements to understand what you are spending on, what's essential, what's not and what is just a waste.

Pay yourself first. On payday transfer money into savings.

Treat saving like a bill so put something away on payday

Budget: bills, days out, food, fuel. Whatever is appropriate then you know how much you have for treats, fun trips out, coffees etc.

Plan no/low spend activities. eg movie/games night with snacks. Ideas from the kids too.

I always transfer on pay day just get an online saver and if you get desperate or bill comes up you can always transfer a little back. Try and cut down on eating out if you’re going for a day out take snacks and drinks with you. Shop around for your groceries.
bank statement reviews always a good one, as that coffee from the expensive chain etc can add up over a month.
