Any help would be great, basically tax credits have halfed our weekly amount from £140 to £70 a week, nursery fees are £135 a week and we can't afford to pay the fees now, was only just scraping through before they did this, no we don't know what to do, does anyone know what benefits we could get if i wasn't working as we both work full time at the mo, thanks

Tax credits are worked out by how much money you both have coming in.Are you sure they have the right figures?

mishymoo · 24/04/2008 09:35

Have any of your circumstances changed recently? If so, it will affect your tax credits. Have you spoken to them and asked them why they have changed so dramatically?

shorty100 · 24/04/2008 09:49

i rang them and they said, what they base it on is what you earn the year before, i didn't work much last year as had a difficult pregnancy, but now work full time, just don't know what to do as struggling to keep up with mortgage and pay £65 towards nursery fees a week

Could you maybe call and see how much you would theoretically get if you stopped work? I have no idea if this is even an option, but perhaps if you were to stop work and were able to cut nursery time and therefore pay less you might find you were better off? I honestly have no idea how the sums would work out though.

Fizzylemonade · 24/04/2008 09:57

Are you using your nursery voucher things through your employers???

Could you cut costs anywhere else on your normal monthly spending?

Could you use a childminder instead of a nursery (I am assuming this is cheaper)

We have cut costs everywhere we can and still very short of what we need, not using any vouchers, ds loves going to nusery, really hope he doesn't have to leave. meant to be getting married in september which is half paid for, and know looks as though we won't be able to, just really stuck.

shorty100 have you only got one dc?How old is he,if he has just turned one child tax credits drop down a fair bit.

shorty100 · 24/04/2008 10:47

He is 14 months, the payments used to be nearly £200 a week when he was under one, so thats why we are struggling so much now, does anyone know if i wasn't working whether we could get help paying the mortgage?

OP posts:
nextone · 24/04/2008 14:08

shorty100 · 24/04/2008 14:14
