if you put cash into the bank to cover a DD going out that day it won't count as it has to be there the day before?

I transferred money from one accout to another which was instant to cover a DD going out yesterday. online it showed at paid and all even but today it says DD unpaid and a charge of £38 - i think this is really unfair - is it just my bank or did everyone but me know this?

yes that's right, the money has to be available at midnight (or thereabouts I think) the night before it's due to be paid...

depends which bank
Bank of Scotland say the money has to be in there before it oes out but HSBC won't charge me if I put cash in on that day

All transactions take place at midnight.

I would contact the bank and see if they are willing to reduce the charge if this is the first occasion it has happened.

it's natwest - sometimes they do it and others they don't - the dd was for £19.10 and they refused it but charged me £38 so they made more money - am really tempted to change to HSBC as natwest have been f*ckers recently

blushing we have same problem with halifax that's interesting about hsbc would def move to them if that's the case as we often pay cash in as dp self employed rather than monthly wage and we are incurring lot's of costs that don't show when you look at online banking.
