state pension eligibility

Hi everyone, I want to apply on behalf of my dad for his state pension (unable to do it himself) and I had some questions, if anyone could please help me.

He became eligible for it when l was 65. That was 11 years ago. He couldn't make the claim because he didn't have my National lnsurance number, but he thought that when he had the NI number he could backdate the claim 11 years.

When he tried to verify this on the internet (and he possibly might have read it wrong) it apparently said that a claim could only be backdated one year.

Is that correct?

Thank you

Bit confused here.... how old is your Dad now? Does he have a full or partial record of National Insurance Contributions of his own?

Sorry about the confusion, I should have been more clear. He is 77 now. He worked in the UK for 25 years, he then moved abroad for almost 40 years.

It won't be backdated to 65 but should get paid at a higher rate to take into account the deferral.

Why did he need your national insurance number to apply for his pension?
