Credit card fraud on my card. Please help!

Hello to all,

have just seen credit card bill and my card was charged a little over £14,000.- for a single transaction last week.

My bank will never let that statement go through, so credit card company wont be able to swivel the money out of my account which means my credit rating will sink.

What else can I expect? Has anyone ever been in this situation? Could really cry with rage. I haven't made any transactions on the net for 2 weeks and the last was from a UK gov website.

I don't know what to do. I've called the credit card comp. and it's being investigated. Why does crap like that always happen to my card???

Do you normally do transactions like this? Usually, the credit card companies pick up on any strange transactions and ring you to make sure it is ok?

I know ours did - we have a Tesco Card which had been cloned. Tesco rang us and asked what transactions we had made - so they were able to cancel our card and issue us with a new one straight away.

It should get sorted out.

I had my Egg card used fraudulently about 18 months back - it was discovered on about the 20th of the month, and by the time my automatic payment rolled round (16th of the next month) they had removed the charge from my account (I had already told them I would NOT be paying it or any charges associated with non-payment). Credit rating remains immaculate.

If they don't deal well with this, I'd really think about leaving that credit card company - in fact even if they DO deal well I'd consider it. £14k is a lot to allow to go through in a credit card transaction without trying to contact you about it, either to authorise it at the time or to flag it up as suspicious after the fact.

I would never spend that much and actually the last big thing I bought (£400) for dp was blocked and I needed to call Amex for authorisation.

You know what makes me cry? The fact that this £400,- shop made me 'unblock' the card so I wouldn't have to authorize any high spendings. I think £14k is a big stretch from 400 and I think you're right, I wonder why they didn't pick it up... They didn't ring at all. And now said they'll push the whole bill through

Do I need to do anthing else now that I've reported it? It's a really weird name, too: not Zara or the likes but Machinetechnologies or god knows what, in really pressed letters. Totally out of my usual spending habits (River Island, Boots, Tesco,...)

I don't quite understand what you mean by "they'll push the whole bill through"

You call Amex tell them it's fraud
If you pay by DD and think they will take the lot then cancel the DD and pay the charges you believe are correct by cheque

In fact, Tesco are so on the ball that when we went to America last year, we forgot to tell them we were going out of the country and when we tried to pay for some park tickets which amounted to around £900, it was blocked and we had to call them to say it was us.

They even went through some other transactions with us to make sure that we had done them and no one else in America.

Yes I rang them. They said I should have immediately called when I was made aware of the fraud. I only received my bill today and rang immediately, gobsmacked. I have just moved countries and jobs so my old company sent that email on with a 2 day delay. Apparently cut off time for payments is 2 days away as it reads on the statement of the bill but I know from experience that credit card comp.s book the money in earlier by 'reserving' the amount (putting a request in with your bank) and then deducting it. They are going to ring back later to tell me what is going to be done. Honestly, I've never been so frustrated with Customer Service. s if it's all my fault.

I have cancelled the standing order with my bank. The money request will bounce. Thanks for the tip TheBlonde will pay the good amount per cheque.

Is it a company amex card?
If so then ask your company rep to call them too
