Best budgeting app

I want to use a budgeting app. It needs to do the following:

Link to my joint bank account

Link the app on my partners phone and my phone

Run pay check to pay check budgeting

Allow me to make "wallets" for each of my budget areas so i can see how much I've spent on eg my shopping budget and how much is left

I've looked at Emma but we can't link our phones.

I've looked at a couple of others but there's so many my brain is hurting!

What do people here use that will suit our needs?

YNAB is amazing. Bit addictive though! I've used it for over ten years

Fleetheart · 26/09/2024 21:52

i have found snoop quite good; only used it for a month though so far

YNAB is brilliant. Took me a bit to get my head around but I couldn't be without it now. I barely check my banking app now and only check YNAB to see what I can spend, which is a revelation!

You can link bank accounts, credit cards, personal loans etc and then set up categories (pots essentially) for all your outgoings and things you want to save for in the future.

It looks like what I need! Can my husband and I link so we both access the same info? Our accounts are all joint.

How is security ensured? Just interested to know?

doodleschnoodle · 27/09/2024 13:32

YNAB. It's by far the best out there but it's a budgeting philosophy and has a learning curve. If you can persevere it can be life-changing though.

Not sure what you mean by security, it doesn't have access to your bank accounts other than having read access to the balance through Open Banking or whatever it's called if you choose to do that.

doodleschnoodle · 27/09/2024 13:33

And yes you can share a budget.

DappledOliveGroves · 27/09/2024 13:36

Another vote for YNAB. You can link your budget to all yours and your husband's accounts and debit/credit cards. You and your husband can use the app on each of your phones to view your shared budget. You can have separate budgets for individuals too if you'd like. It's great. They also have a podcast.

YNAB 100% worth the cost - it's the only app I pay for . life changing

wildfellhall · 27/09/2024 14:44

How much does it cost? It sounds good

DappledOliveGroves · 27/09/2024 15:52

YNAB is $109 per year, which equates to around £80, give or take, depending on the exchange rate.

I know this is old but I find this one simple to use: www.toolsonfire.com/en/BudgetTracker

Another vote for YNAB. I've been using it for three years now and I love it. As pp, the only app I pay for. Well worth the money.
