We’re just enacting FILs prepayment plan. Definitely one less thing to worry about. They had also chosen direct cremation, we’ll have a brief ceremony when we scatter his ashes.

After some firms went bust a few years ago, all companies selling plans had to become regulated by the Financial Conducts Authority (FCA). Make sure the company you use is FCA regulated and the plans will be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The Co-op is one such company that is regulated but many others are too.

I used to be a funeral arranger and would sell plans as part of my job (not Co-op). Generally our pre-paid plans were cheaper than buying a funeral at time of need. Also, the amount you pay for funeral services (not third party stuff like church/crematorium etc) is guaranteed at that price and won't rise. Therefore, if you buy your plan at eg age 40, and live to 80, you'll be paying today's prices, not what they'll be in 40 years time.

I've just lost my DH and will definitely be getting a plan in place very soon. It's hard enough arranging a funeral for a parent, I don't want my children having the additional worry of paying for or planning it. An additional benefit of a plan is you can put in your plan what you want, what music, readings etc - lots of practical stuff - so your loved ones don't have to worry about deciding that either.

I think the planning is just as important as the money!

Getting your preferences chosen and recorded will really assist those mourning your loss. They can talk it through, know what you wanted, and make any changes they prefer.

we dont have credit cards

Always a good idea to have one for purchases over £100, excellent consumer protection!
