What’s the non-London equivalent of a London salary?

So if someone earns £60,000 in London, what’s a similar salary weighted for non-South East equivalence?

Because although £60k sounds a lot, because of London rent, it’s more like £35k if you lived in Manchester or Newcastle or Glasgow

Surely you have just answered your own question?

There is no one single answer and the UK is as simple as London / not-London. Cambridge and Edinburgh spring to mind as not-London but still very expensive areas to live (I’m sure there are many).

Outside of the public sector, most companies don't pay London weighting any more, however the market rate in London tends to be higher, simple supply and demand.

I get about an extra £4000 (gross) on top of around £68k for working in London, thankfully I don't actually have to go in very often, even a couple days of month off peak pretty much uses up the full net amount. My house would cost double what we paid even somewhere like Milton Keynes, I dread to think what it would cost if it was actually on a tube line. London weighting is rather pathetic frankly (but not complaining for me personally as I'm not really expected in).

(Public sector so the £68k is the national salary if based out of London).

In most jobs, the extra salary in London and SE will go nowhere near bridging the gap in the higher cost of housing, so people I other areas will likely have more disposable income even if their salary is much lower.

London weighting for NHS medical. Staff is £2,160 a year, which considering you normally need to live within 30mins of the hospital if on call doesnt seem like it would cover the difference in living costs....

I understand what you’re asking but as pointed out there are huge regional differences.I suppose looking at what average housing costs are per region would help but even then Harrogate versus Huddersfield they are both Yorkshire but very different places.
