Is this a change requiring reporting to UC?

DS 17 is in receipt of Adult Disability Payment, do I need to report this change to UC? He has only received a few payments of it so far but I wasn't sure if I need to be contacting UC about this?

Did he get Child Disability Payment before turning 16, or was this his first award? If he was getting CDP then UC presumably knew that already.

If this is his first award then if he is a dependent child on your UC claim, you'll get an additional disabled child element for him plus possibly a carers element for yourself. What rate is he getting?

This is his first claim, he didn't qualify for CDP, only ADP as he was 16yo at the time of applying. Enhanced daily living rate. No mobility rate.

I am in receipt of CA already for another DC in the family.

Thank you for replying. DH said that it's unlikely it will need to be reported as DS is a dependent in the context of UC, I wasn't as sure...

He still lives at home and in full time education.

Definitely report it. He should get the higher disabled child element as long as he is a dependent child on your claim, and if you request backdating to the start of his ADP claim you might get that too.

Thanks for your advice - will definitely contact UC about it. Sounds like it might be worth looking into.

"You'll need to provide a good reason for not reporting to us sooner". Fair enough, we should have reported it immediately. But weren't sure if we needed to? Letter was dated a few months ago.

As you already get carers, DH should get carers element

Don't worry about the good reason - it's just so they have a reason to sling in the box.

The disabled child element will be backdated anyway, because it's a legislative thing (long day, can't think of the correct term), but it still goes to a Decision Maker.

Yes, if one of you isn't already getting Carers Element they can claim it - also ask for this hi be backdated.

(Caveat is if the one not already receiving Carers Element gets LCWRA then no point as they'll continue to get the higher LCWRA element instead).
